Best Gaming Laptop Under $1500 – Buying Tips
Here’s the thing – when you’re buying a gaming laptop under $1500, you’re going to have to make some compromises. A fully kitted out gaming laptop or PC setup will run you thousands of dollars more. Don’t get me wrong, I know $1500 is a lot of money, but in the world of gaming computers it’s enough to get you a mid level machine.
With that in mind, here are a few tips for when you research the best gaming laptop under $1500.
Performance vs Durability vs Portability
With a $1500 budget, you get to pick two out of those 3. Which are most important to you? Obviously all 3 are ideal, but you will likely have to compromise in one of those areas. Something that performs at a high level and is durable is likely going to weigh a lot for a laptop (see the ASUS Scar II). That might not be ideal if you travel a lot to LAN parties.
On the flip side, anything that is light and thin profiled and performs at a high level is prone to breaking down by design. Smaller machines generally have a harder time self regulating heat and lasting.
Generally speaking though, anything that is high performance and could replace a PC will be bulkier and harder to travel with. Just make sure you think about which two of these three factors are most important to you!
Frame Rates
In today’s world of gaming, frame rates are everything. The difference between coming out on top in an encounter vs going back to the lobby can be as little as who has the better frame rate.
Frame rate in general is one of the main reasons PC gamers have an advantage over console players in cross platform games. With that in mind, make sure the gaming laptop under $1500 you are looking to buy has at least a 144Hz refresh rate.
Peripherals and Direct Attach Storage
You want a gaming laptop that can easily support various peripherals such as a gaming mouse, headsets, and all of the other staples. Ideally you should be able to attach additional storage and have slots to upgrade memory and WiFi connectivity too.
Heat Regulation
Make sure your gaming laptop has a sophisticated built in cooling system. Read reviews from other users that specifically talk about how well that cooling system runs. This is a component that can be easily overlooked, but is of the utmost importance in terms of how long your laptop will run.
